Style n scissors
Yes that's the name of my unisex hairdressers' franchise at the corner of my rather long street.
And yes my hair growth is a bit faster despite my age and for fortuitous reasons it's also a bit more luxuriant. My hair is also basically curly always defing my attempts to keep a straight disciplined looking style from forehead to the back, without parting.... someone had once even asked me if I was wearing a wig!
With this my regular monthly visits to the barber were routinely necessary as with occasional delays the curls would unfurl and bring out my inherent eccentricity rather well...
This time there was definitely an inordinate delay of almost three weeks on my part and to add to it, the lockdown due to corona crisis was making the delay of more than two months and a quarter...
I would have looked like a poet or a guru ,but for my clean shave, as I grappled with maintaining my longer and longer hair... and my pseudo poetic look.
Then as chance would have it I saw my neighbour sitting in princely grandeur on a chair as a smart uniformed, well trained looking barber snipped away his hair in our common verandah overlooking half of Jaipur, so to say.....
I could see the smirk on his bent face as I fought with my curiosity to ask,"how come?"
He later explained the barber was from the police department as they maintained a battery of barbers, cobblers etc on the roll to cater to the need of the force....my neighbour incidentally is a top ranking person in the force.....
I was almost going to ask if the barber would do my hair but somehow could not bring myself to it......
I continued therefore with my pseudo look as it was...
Today, however, as I was about to take a bath somehow a thought struck me and I approached my wife Daxa who was in the kitchen and asked if she could use the comb and scissors for a change and give me a haircut....
Being a very sporty person she said yes and soon I found myself sitting like a King in our terrace garden and she took up the scissors and comb for the first time in her life....
Normally at the hairdresser one prefers to wait for the particular artist to run through your hair as a measure of trust and faith in their ability...
Here however I put the entire trust and faith in Daxa's maiden venture and bowed down in apprehensive anticipation.....
Snip snip snip went the scissors and I kept mum for general safety imagining the snipped locks of hair falling down gracefully......
After some time she seemed satisfied. as she called curtains to the maiden show and presto she asked me to have a look.....I had no mirror there....
But when I saw her work in the mirror I was simply floored as she had done such a wonderful work that I had no words to express.
For a moment the miser in me was calculating how much I can save buy not visiting the franchise, now that I have our own exclusive one.......
The smile of joy in her face was unmistakable like that of a player hitting century on debut and the glow in my heart was simply magical...
The lockdown may be extended,I believe, but I am not complaining....
